Dr. Klaas Stek is een universitair docent purchasing and supply management bij de sectie Entrepreneurship and Technology Management van de Faculteit  Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences van de Universiteit Twente (UT)

Dr. Stek is gepromoveerd in Purchasing Supply Management aan de UT. Met zijn proefschrift, Purchasing Skills Leading to Success - How to Succeed in Innovation Sourcing, onderzocht hij die competenties die leiden tot hogere effectiviteit (of "succes") bij industriële en publieke inkoop. Zijn expertise omvat competenties en capaciteitsopbouw op het gebied van publieke, gezondheidszorg- en industriële inkoop. Hij behaalde zijn Senior University Teaching Qualification met zijn onderzoek A challenge-based experiment aiming to develop strategic thinking - An inquiry into the role of stimulating creativity for out-of-the-box thinking.

Naast zijn werk aan de UT is hij lid van de ledenraad van de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Inkoopmanagement (NEVI) en maakt deel uit van de Editorial Advisory Board van de Journal of Public Procurement en de Journal of Responsible Production and Consumption. Hij heeft educatie workshops voor docenten georganiseerd op de conferenties van de International Purchasing and Supply Education and Research Association (IPSERA) in Dortmund, Duitsland (2016); Boedapest, Hongarije (2017); Athene, Griekenland (2018); Milaan, Italië (2019); Knoxville, TN VS (online 2021); Jönköping, Zweden (2022); Barcelona, Spanje (2023) en Rio de Janeiro, Brazilië (2024). Dr. Stek is de auteur van de IPSERA Best Paper Award 2021 en runner up van de IPSERA Best Talent Award Paper 2025. Zijn werk is gepubliceerd in o.a. de Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management, European Business Review, the International Journal of Procurement Management, en Logistics.

Dr. Stek is medeoprichter van het European Lab of Innovative Purchasing and Supply (EL-IPS) aan de UT. Hij is verantwoordelijk voor de dagelijkse leiding, het begeleiden van projecten, het ondersteunen van projectaanvragen en het organiseren van diverse bijeenkomsten en evenementen. Door bruggen te bouwen en synergieën te bevorderen, wil EL-IPS PSM in onderzoek en praktijk verder ontwikkelen. EL-IPS is een uniek multifacultair initiatief dat meer dan dertig Purchasing and Supply Management (PSM)-onderzoekers verenigt op het gebied van (1) productie-inkoop, (2) volksgezondheid en (3) openbare aanbestedingen, en (4) aanbesteding van openbare werken voor projecten de Universiteit Twente. EL-IPS is betrokken bij meerdere Europese projecten en projectaanvragen.

Als een van 's werelds grootste academische inkooponderzoekscentrum houdt EL-IPS zich bezig met vele professionele, onderzoeks- en onderwijsactiviteiten in verschillende domeinen, zoals de productie-, infrastructuur-, en publieke en gezondheidssectoren – met integratie en synergieën over de sectorgrenzen heen. EL-IPS is gecentreerd rond een gedeelde inkoopontwikkelingsagenda en heeft tot doel regionale netwerken op te zetten en multinationale ondernemingen (MNC's), kleine en middelgrote ondernemingen (MKB) en publieke entiteiten in de regio Twente en andere regio's, nationaal en internationaal, met elkaar te verbinden.

Dr. Stek coördineert de MSc-opleiding Inkoopmanagement in de track Industrial Engineering and Management. Deze cursus biedt de studenten een evenwichtige mix van kennis en theorie, professionele en interpersoonlijke vaardigheden en intrapersoonlijke attitudes. De cursus wordt jaarlijks beoordeeld door de studenten met een  8 of hoger.
