Stans Drossaert studeerde Gezondheidsbevordering (Health Promotion) aan de Universiteit Maastricht en promoveerde in 2002 op haar proefschrift, getiteld: 'Psychosocial aspects of breast cancer screening'.

Haar onderzoeksinteresses liggen op het gebied van 'patient empowerment en de rol van technologie hierin'. Ze is geïnteresseerd in hoe (internet)technologie patiënten (en zorgverleners) kan ondersteunen bij het managen van hun gezondheid en hen kan helpen een gelukkig, zinvol leven te leiden met de ziekte. Binnen dit thema bestudeerde ze onderwerpen als gedeelde besluitvorming, patiëntportalen, e-monitoring en (digitale) gezondheidsvaardigheden. In co-creatie met eindgebruikers heeft ze verschillende tools ontwikkeld om zelfmanagement en (mentale) gezondheid te bevorderen. Drossaert heeft ruime ervaring met zowel kwantitatief, kwalitatief als mixed-method onderzoek.

Ze is coördinator van de masterspecialisatie Health Psychology & Technology, en geeft les in zowel de bachelor als de master psychologie.
