Prof.dr.ir. H. (Erik) Koffijberg studeerde Technische Informatica aan de Universiteit Delft en promoveerde op het gebruik van besliskundige modellen binnen de neurologie aan de Universiteit Utrecht. Hij is hoogleraar Technology Assessment of Digital Health Innovations en voorzitter van de vakgroep Health Technology & Services Research van de faculteit Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences aan de Universiteit Twente in Nederland.

Erik heeft meer dan 18 jaar ervaring in (early) health technology assessment (HTA) toegepast op de evaluatie van nieuwe diagnostische tests, beeldvormingstechnieken, voorspellingsmodellen, kunstmatige intelligentie en medische hulpmiddelen. Hij heeft onder meer gepubliceerd over toegepaste analyses gericht op kosteneffectiviteit en budgetimpact van innovaties in cardiologie, oncologie en neurologie. Ook ontwikkelde hij nieuwe simulatietechnieken om de lange termijn effecten van (preventieve) innovaties te schatten en nieuwe selectie mogelijkheden om de efficiƫntie van preventieve strategieƫn te verbeteren.

Erik geeft onderwijs in master programmaā€™s en geeft externe cursussen over HTA, Health Economic Modeling, Discrete Event Simulation in Healthcare, en Metamodeling. Hij coƶrdineert ook de Healthcare Technology & Management (HCTM) track van de masteropleiding Industrial Engineering & Management. Hij is PI in meerdere grote (internationale) onderzoek consortia gericht op ontwikkeling en optimaal van biomarkers, imaging technologieĆ«n, en AI, voor screening of vroege opsporing van ziekten. Met zijn onderzoek ondersteunt Erik het optimale gebruik en implementatie van diagnostische innovaties in de gezondheidszorg.

Erik is lid geweest van verschillende ZonMw-commissies en van het bestuur van de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Gezondheidseconomie. Momenteel is hij lid van de wetenschappelijke adviesraad van het Zorginstituut (ZIN).
