Cindy Poortman is Universitair docent aan de Universiteit Twente. Zij is de 4TU.CEE (Centre for Engineering Education) leader aan de UT. Haar onderzoek en onderwijs is gericht op professionalisering van docenten - van primair tot en met hoger onderwijs - in teams en netwerken (wat betreft onderzoek in de onderwijspraktijk). Gerelateerde thema's waaraan zij werkt zijn o.a. leiderschap en duurzaamheid van onderwijsinnovaties. Zij is coordinator van het ICSEI netwerk 'Professionele Leernetwerken' (PLNs). Zij heeft de

Professional Learning Networks in Education: Tearing Down Boundaries for School and System Improvement
ontvangen om een onderzoeksconferentie in San Diego te organiseren in 2019. Zij heeft verschillende boeken en special issues ge-edit en hieraan bijgedragen als auteur, zoals het boek 'Networks for Learning' (met editor Chris Brown), de boekenserie Professional Learning Networks (met editor Chris Brown) en heeft journal papers gepubliceerd over datagebruik en PLNs. Recent is zij gestart met onderzoek in een project over de professionele ontwikkeling van docenten op het gebied van formatief toetsen - Assessment for Learning (AfL).
