Ik verdeel mijn tijd tussen het Nederlands Forensisch Instituut (NFI), een agentschap van het Nederlandse Ministerie van Justitie en Veiligheid, waar ik principal scientist ben, en de Universiteit Twente, waar ik de leerstoel Forensische Biometrie bekleed. Ik ben associate editor voor Forensic Science International (FSI) en lid van de R&D standing committee van het European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI-RDSC). Ik ben ook lid van het ISO Technical Committee 272 Forensic Science, dat de ISO-norm 21043 ontwikkelt.

Eerder was ik verantwoordelijk voor de vingerafdruksectie binnen het NFI en leider van een project over de probabilistische evaluatie van vingerafdrukbewijs. Van 2002 tot 2004 werkte ik als senior forensisch wetenschapper bij de R&D afdeling van de Forensic Science Service (UK-FSS), toen een uitvoerend agentschap van het Britse Ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken. Ik ben geboren in Fribourg, Zwitserland. Na een klassieke opleiding (Latijn / Filosofie) ben ik afgestudeerd als criminalist en criminoloog (1993) en gepromoveerd (2000), beide aan de School of Forensic Science (Ecole de Sciences Criminelles) van de Universiteit van Lausanne.

Ik ben gespecialiseerd in de automatisering en validatie van het probabilistisch opsporing en bewijsvoering van forensische sporen, en meer specifiek van biometrische sporen.
