Ester van Laar werkt als Universitair Docent bij de vakgroep Communicatiewetenschap. Ze combineert kwantitatieve en kwalitatieve onderzoeksmethodes (bijv. interviews, prestatiemetingen, systematische literatuuronderzoek, vragenlijsten) om de benodigde digitale vaardigheden te identificeren, te meten en te ondersteunen. Haar onderzoek richt zich op het nastreven van een inclusieve digitale samenleving. In 2019 verdedigde ze haar promotieonderzoek ‘What are E-ssential skills?’ aan de Universiteit Twente met het predicaat Cum Laude.

Organisaties

Mijn huidige onderzoeksprojecten richten zich op het thema digitale inclusie. Als postdoctoraal onderzoeker (2020–2023) voor het H2020-project ‘ySKILLS’ was ik betrokken bij het meten van innovatieve conceptualiseringen van digitale vaardigheden van kinderen en adolescenten. Het door NWO gefinancierde project ‘e-skills, key to 21st-century labor’ over digitale vaardigheden die werkprofessionals nodig hebben, was onderdeel van mijn promotieonderzoek (2015–2019).
