Met een achtergrond als advocaat, docent rechten en onderzoeker in de rechtsfilosofie raakte ik gefascineerd door wiskundige logica, waarmee ik voor het eerst in aanraking kwam tijdens mijn filosofiestudie aan de rechtenfaculteit. Ik besloot een carrière in de informatica na te streven, in de overtuiging dat informatietechnologie elk aspect van de samenleving en elk onderzoeksgebied aan het overnemen is.

Ik behaalde een doctoraat in de informatica aan de Vrije Universiteit van Bozen-Bolzano, Italië, waar ik onderzoek deed naar ontologiegedreven conceptuele modellering toegepast op het gebied van beveiliging, onder begeleiding van Giancarlo Guizzardi, Enrico Franconi en Tiago Prince Sales.

Ik ben geïnteresseerd in het ontwikkelen van ontologisch goed onderbouwde en logisch rigoureuze technologische oplossingen voor risicobeheer, met name op het gebied van cyberbeveiliging.

Organisaties

Mijn onderzoek maakt gebruik van een ontologie-gedreven benadering van beveiligingsmodellering. In het bijzonder stel ik een algemene preventietheorie voor die gebaseerd is op de Unified Foundational Ontology (UFO) om een ontologie van beveiliging op te baseren, die de "Reference Ontology for Security Engineering" (ROSE) wordt genoemd. Deze twee ontologische theorieën zijn toegepast bij het analyseren en herontwerpen van artefacten (D3FEND ontologie en ArchiMate taal).

Momenteel werk ik aan het verbeteren van deze theorieën en het ontwikkelen van nieuwe toepassingen. Ik ben geïnteresseerd in het ontwikkelen van goed onderbouwde semantische oplossingen die begrijpelijk, interpreteerbaar en interoperabel zijn voor zowel mensen als machines.
