Simon Langener is a passionate researcher and innovator focusing on the intersection of technology and healthcare. With a strong cross-disciplinary background in Human-Computer Interaction, Health Psychology, and Social Work, Simon is dedicated to the development and evaluation of cutting-edge behaviour change technology —especially Virtual Reality and Virtual Humans— to improve psychiatric treatments for vulnerable people in society, such as persons with a mental disorder and/or intellectual disability. Simon received a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work at the Saxion University of Applied Science, a Master’s degree in Health Psychology and Technology (cum laude), as well as a PhD in Human Media Interaction at the University of Twente. To design technology based on end-users’ needs and wishes, Simon applies user-centered design methods as part of the requirements engineering process. His innovative mindset, combined with his commitment to patient-centered care, fuels his mission to make digital health solutions more accessible and effective.

Detox@Home - remote monitoring and intervention during detoxification from addictive substances
Het Detox@Home project ontwikkelt eHealth technologie om de toegankelijkheid, veiligheid en effectiviteit van een ambulante detoxificatie te verhogen. De patiënt-therapeutinteractie wordt bevorderd via een communicatieplatform, en met behulp van telemetrie en laagdrempelige digitale zelfrapportage wordt het beloop van ontwenningsverschijnsel gedetecteerd en voorspelt. Bovendien wordt de patiënt door eHealth interventies ondersteund via hetzelfde platform (bijv. gedragstherapie, stressreductie, geautomatiseerde medicatiedispensers). Tot slot wordt het Detox@Home platform geïntegreerd in elektronische patiëntendossiers, hetgeen ook de administratiedruk vermindert.
